Euro-MPs celebrate anniversary with cash-saving call

WALES Euro-MPs Glenys Kinnock and Eluned Morgan today marked the European Parliament's 50th anniversary with a call to abolish the Parliament's Strasbourg seat - and save taxpayers €200 million a year.

MEP hits out at ‘rip-off' energy charges

WALES Euro-MP ELUNED MORGAN today hit out at ‘rip-off' energy charges as shock new figures reveal that the poorest customers are charged up to £330 more for gas and electricity. Research from industry watchdog Energywatch says that customers on pre-payment meters can pay up to £330 more a year than online payment or direct debit customers.

Wales to reap rewards of strong Euro

A CONTINUING strong Euro could see Wales up to £131m better off, Euro-MP Eluned Morgan today said. If the money for the EU's new Convergence Programme (the replacement for Objective 1) were to be transferred at the current exchange rate then it would mean Wales would benefit from an extra £111m over the course of the 7 year programme.

MEPs back better credit deals for shoppers

SHOPPERS wanting to spread the cost of buying cars, washing machines and furniture can look forward to better credit deals and more responsible lending, under EU plans backed by Euro-MPs today. Wales Euro-MPs Glenys Kinnock and Eluned Morgan are supporting proposals to open up the European consumer credit market while at the same time ensuring greater protection for credit consumers across the EU.

CLEARER skies are ahead - after Euro-MPs backed new plans to tackle climate change by limiting emissions from aircraft. Labour MEPs GLENYS KINNOCK and ELUNED MORGAN voted to include aircraft emissions in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).

EU commissioner visits techno centre during birthday celebrations

EUROPEAN Commissioner Janez Potočnik will join Euro-MP Eluned Morgan today at the Techniquest children's science centre in Cardiff Bay, which celebrates its 21st birthday this month. As well as touring Techniquest the Commissioner for Science and Research will meet with First Minister Rhodri Morgan and the Vice-Chancellors of Welsh universities.

MEPs welcome mobile call cost cut

CALLING home from Europe just got cheaper - thanks to an EU move to cut mobile phone 'roaming' charges. Wales Euro-MPs Glenys Kinnock and Eluned Morgan welcomed the new European Consumer Tariff, which automatically caps the so-called 'roaming' charges levied by companies when you use your phone elsewhere in Europe.
